I quickly posted my last entry because my internet kept disconnecting. Here is the other link that is missing from my post!
I don't agree, but it's interesting to me that a pyschologist made this video claiming that learning styles don't exist.

Interesting video, Rachel. Why did you find yourself disagreeing?
ReplyDeleteWhat I strongly disagree with is this video are the statements about auditory and visual learning styles. He states that it shouldn't matter to the teacher whether a student learns better in one of these ways because the teacher should want students to learn based on meaning.
ReplyDeleteHe also claims that teachers don't need to adjust their teaching to individual learning styles. I also disagree with this. My thought is that teachers should offer a variety of activities to enable learning for all students. I believe the goal of teaching should be attaching meaning to concepts, I truly believe that learning styles do exist. I am a visual learner and often struggle with written instructions. I'm oftentimes confused until I see someone performing that actions that I'm supposed to be doing. Some people can pick a manual and put things together and others can not. To me that says something about the way they learn and comprehend material. This is why I believe learning styles exist and that teachers should try and teach to all types of learners.
